Election Day...2008

Today is election day and I wonder what all is going on in the spiritual realm. God, I know what I want and who/what I voted for – those things/people I think best represent Your Kingdom values. But I also know that the glory of Your Name isn’t always best achieved by the creation of ideal circumstances. Your Kingdom plan is not being threatened today. Your sovereignty is not in question. You are on the throne and that isn’t subject to vote. I’m thankful for this since we’d probably vote You out depending on what You did or did not do for us in any given situation. We'd vote according to our thoughts and our ways, which we already know do not always line up with Your thoughts and Your ways. So please help us to trust and obey You today.

You’ve told us what You desire for us: To act justly, love mercy and to walk humbly with You (Mic 6:8). You also have said, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land.” 2 Chron 7:14. Lord, we Your people tend to beg and plead for outcomes when we sense a desperate situation. Yet, we tend to not see our sin as the desperate condition it is – which always is in need of Your healing and forgiveness. Help me - help us - to seek Your heart and Your face today and everyday, and to confess our sin and submit ourselves to You. Help us to care as much about our personal sin as we do about the sin of our land.

Lord, I pray that Your Kingdom will come, that Your Name will be glorified, and that Your Purposes will be accomplished today, whether or not that results in favorable living conditions for us. This may mean that things become tougher for believers. Help us to be faithful to You no matter what our circumstance – no matter what country we live in – no matter what our government looks like.

Thank You for Your Faithfulness to us – a broken and needy people. Thank You for Your love that You’ve chosen to lavish on us, even as undeserving as we are. You are truly our Great Reward. There is no greater thing that You could give us other than Yourself. Help us to trust You and not live in fear. Your perfect love casts out fear. Help us to be very aware of Your love today. Help our souls to be at rest no matter our circumstances – Truly, All is Well. In Your Presence is fullness of Joy. Your nearness is our good.
